Overview - NEPA Requirements

The EIS is being prepared in accordance with regulations of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969. NEPA regulations govern the environmental review process for projects that require Federal action that may result in significant environmental impacts, to ensure that all significant issues are identified and the full range of alternatives and impacts of the proposed project are addressed.

The EIS will identify significant environmental issues in the environmental review process, including thorough consultation with federal, state, and local agencies and from public input.

NEPA aims to ensure that environmental information is available to the public and public officials before decisions are made and actions are taken. Public participation is a critical part of the environmental review process required by NEPA.
