The United States Coast Guard directed preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) to evaluate alternatives for the proposed Goethals Bridge Replacement. The Port Authority of NY and NJ, the project sponsor, proposed this replacement of the Goethals Bridge as part of its Goethals Bridge Modernization Program.

The Coast Guard, as lead Federal agency for the EIS, invites you to learn about the proposed action, and the environmental review process that was completed with issuance of the Record of Decision.

The environmental review process for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Goethals Bridge Replacement Project was concluded with the US Coast Guard’s issuance of the Final Environmental Impact Statement in August 2010 and the Record of Decision in January 2011.  Both of those documents, as well as other information and materials prepared throughout the environmental review process, remain available on this website for public information purposes.

It is the intention of The Port Authority to maintain this website as a resource, but no longer an interactive website. Effort has been expended to change the text to reflect the past tense and remove links; however, there may be a few instances where all were not captured.
